Roxy Music released eight albums in its twelve years of recording. There’s not a dud in the lot. “Siren” is the fifth Roxy Music album and is considered by many to be their best. It certainly is one of their most influential.
“Siren” perfectly blended the eccentricities of glam rock with the edginess of punk. Although Roxy is often excluded from the list, its sound also marked the beginning of what came to be known as the New Romantic era of music in the UK – a time when bands like Duran Duran, Ultravox, Spandau Ballet, and Depeche Mode reigned supreme. More than any other Roxy Music album, “Siren”, in both its sound and the band’s physical presence, was the catalyst for the New Romantic movement in the UK.
